After The Ball

I found this book in the most peculiar of places. We were in Maui for a wedding, and prior to leaving I had researched on used book stores to visit and I found the Maui Friends of the Library, a little shack tucked in the back corner of an old school yard. I went to the Hawaii lit section and found After the Ball. A story by an Hawaiian author about a little boy living a cursed life.  Continue reading

Us Conductors

I acquired this book from a friend who received it from her Dad. He reads a lot of the same types of books I do, so she just passes them along to me, and she just reads the ones I recommend to her. Occasionally, this results in me getting stuck with an 800 page fiction – not ideal, but I’ll read anything. I looked into the historical accuracy of this novel before starting it, and found quickly that, while the characters and overall plot are real, the book as a whole cannot be taken as fact.  Continue reading
